The Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff of the Medical Center, provides protection of property, and curtails criminal activity through visible deterrents.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES The following duties are intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbents in this position and is not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.
1. Provides foot and motor patrol of the facility and reports safety and other discrepancies observed; this includes testing alarm and locking systems and reporting observed problems.
2. Performs lock and unlock duties as defined in the duty schedule.
3. Responds in a timely manner to calls for routine assistance.
4. Escorts patients, visitors, and staff to surrounding parking areas as requested.
5. Completes written reports of security activities.
6. Responds to emergent incidents, evaluates circumstances, and acts as a liaison with the appropriate persons.
7. Stands by with actual and potential disruptive persons to ensure the safety of all persons involved.
8. Conducts patrols of the Medical Center parking areas; issues parking violation notices as necessary.
9. Participates in ongoing training about current security trends and technologies.
10. Performs routine scheduled duties, such as making bank deposits.
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or equivalent preferred. Two years related experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; crisis intervention skills; and ability to project a positive image for the Medical Center, required.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, and have a valid Washington State Driver's License with a five-year clean driving record, for auto liability coverage through Virginia Mason Medical Center. Additional requirements include: the ability to obtain Healthcare Security Officer basic certification within 6 months of employment; Supervisory and Safety Certifications within first year of employment; and completion of Certified Protection Officer training within second year of employment.
